When we arrived at this customers house, she wanted us to replace all the existing rot on her back porch with new wood. Upon inspection, we found that one of the support posts was completely rotted, the other support post only has a small amount of rot happening, so we were able to cut it back to where the wood was good and build off of that. The roof rafters had a good amount of rot happening but still had enough of good wood to where we didn’t have to remove the rafters completely, the roof itself had a decent amount of rot to remove. The customer had already built a support structure to help hold the roof up.
We started with the support post so working on the roof would be a lot safer. After tearing down the worst of the two posts and the fascia board, we got to work on measuring, cutting, and rebuilding the post. The other post that needed work done to it just had a small patch job.
While working on the worst post we went ahead and replaced the rotted rafter tails with new ones, so the roof has even more support when we got up to work on it.
Once we made sure everything below was secure, level, and supported we hopped up on the roof to fix the rot happening. We cut back the rot and replaced it with good wood and added drip edge around the roof for an extra measure of protection for the rain.
The customer is having her husband add shingles to the top of the roof. If you are worried about having rotting wood around your house give us a call or email us and we can come out to you and give you a free estimate!
